Project News
Our Changing Bodies project continues to develop as children build knowledge through experiences that further their understanding.
In the block room, children began looking after baby dolls. Babies, Cara and Brooklyn visited with the children, bringing an element of real life to the caretaking experiences they had been exploring. This coming week, Barbara (a midwife) will share aspects of her work and models of fetal development.
The children have also explored their understanding of doctors, patients, nurses and ambulance drivers through role playing. Doctors David Fenton and Sunita Vohra Erickson will share aspects of their work to build further understanding about the healthcare field. Firefighter Peter Yez talked with the children about his work in the community as well.
Our coming visit to the Van Vliet Fitness & Lifestyle centre is an opportunity to extend the children’s understanding about exercise and physical fitness.
The theatre production, Beneath the Ice, is similar to our book, the Last First Time. Following a discussion that developed from the question, ‘How do you know when you are old enough?’ we shared the story that takes place in the Canadian North - a story of a young girl who, under the guidance of her mother, walks on the sea floor to collect mussels for her family.
Current kindergarten families, please see your newsletter for information on upcoming field visits.

Wow Lee,
ReplyDeleteI can hardly keep up with all of your posts! You must have so much spare time, what with teaching and so on. Have you heard of Twitter? Apparently it involves carrying a phone around with you and sending out little bleeps whenever you are waiting at the subway or stuck on the elevator going to the 40 th floor. I can imagine the twitter posts coming from you:
"Just had a little talk about feelings with Cara and Kylie. Kylie will try and use her words, next time."
Oh wait, you are actually there for the kids, aren't you?
LOL
