News about Ringhouse

The news is out - kindergarten is moving. The Child Study Center Kindergarten is joining the grades 1-6 at Garneau school. Searching for ways to bring meaning and closure we are beginning to talk about plans for the move, a party and a new project with the children. The topic will be Ring house, its building and people. We will be documenting the memories and stories of people's experiences at Ring House. If you have a story or memory to share, we would love to listen. Please e mail me in regards to arranging a visit with us to share your story or memory (lee.makovichuk@ualberta.ca). We welcome all stories as there are no stories that are too small or unimportant. Once compiled, these memories will describe a history, a treasured time in the lives of children, families, and teachers.

Project News

Since our return from spring break the children have been planting vegetables and talking about the digestive system. Earlier this month we had Mariel, an expert from the nutritional science department talk with the children about food groups and a healthy balanced diet. From this we developed discussions around sorting food by food groups.

The children continue to explore the story, "The Name of the Tree." They are making animal masks to create dramatized story.

Wrapping up the bottle collection for the Food Bank Donation has reaped a small fortune of $120.85. We will be making a list of food with the children that will be purchased with this money.
As the children continue to talk about the picnic and lemonade stand we have discussed holding a pack-your-own picnic during the lunch hour (noon - 1:00pm.) on Thursday May 7th. Morning families are welcome to stay and afternoon families are welcome to arrive early. We invite families to view the project documentation and children's project folders bringing an end to our Food project. Please bring food donations for the Edmonton Food Bank on our picnic day.
